Why your GBP posts get zero views (and what to post instead)

Zero views on Google Business Profile posts usually means people never opened the listing, or the post never went live. Here is why that happens and what to post instead of filler updates.

A week of Google Business Profile (GBP) posts and the insights still sit at zero, or close to it. The usual reaction is to post more often, or to blame the photo.

Most of the time the post is not failing as content. It is sitting in a place almost nobody visits unless they already searched the business. GBP posts are not a social feed. They do not go out to followers the way Instagram or Facebook does.

This post explains why views stay flat, how to check whether the update is even live, and what is worth posting instead of filler.

GBP posts show on the listing after someone already found you, not in a stream people scroll. Generic "we're open" updates therefore collect almost no views. Confirm the post status is Live, then use Offer or Event posts with dates, a real photo, and a button that completes an action. Volume without a reason to click will not move the number.

Posts are not a feed people follow

Google's own help is clear about where posts appear. Customers find them in the Updates or Overview tabs on mobile, and in the From the owner section on desktop. That is the listing itself, not a separate audience you built.

If the profile rarely shows in the map pack, almost nobody will ever open those tabs. Posting three times a week does not create that traffic. Ranking and reviews do. Posts can help a person who is already looking decide to call or visit. They cannot substitute for a listing that is hard to find.

Treat view counts that way. A useful offer on a busy listing can earn clicks. The same offer on a listing nobody opens will look like a failed campaign when it is really a visibility problem.

Zero can also mean the post never went live

Before rewriting copy, check status in the Posts list. Google reviews each post against its posts content policy. Live means it can show on Search and Maps. Pending means it is still processing, or the profile is unverified. Not approved means it is hidden, and the question mark next to the status points at the policy it broke.

Phone numbers in the description are a frequent reject. Google does not allow a number in the post text. Use a Call now button that uses the verified profile number instead. Auto-generated filler, extra characters, and empty professional-looking templates are also on the reject list in Google's create-a-post help.

An unverified profile will keep posts in Pending. Fix verification before measuring views. A post older than six months is archived unless it has a date range, which is another reason yesterday's update no longer appears.

What to post instead of filler

Use the post types Google actually built for a reason, and skip the ones that only prove you logged in.

  • Offer posts with a real title, start and end dates, and a coupon or terms if you have them. The View Offer button is automatic.
  • Event posts with a title and start and end times for something that is actually happening at the business.
  • Update posts only when there is news a customer would act on, such as a booking change, a new service, or a temporary hour change, plus a photo and a button that goes to the page where the action happens.

One specific, dated post beats a calendar of stock photos with "happy Monday" captions. Recurring posts exist if the same offer truly repeats. Repeating empty copy on a weekly schedule is how the insights stay at zero.

Posts also will not save a listing that is suspended or missing services. Those are separate jobs, including recovering a suspended Google Business Profile. Getting the public profile accurate, then posting only when there is something to say, is part of local search and Google Business Profile work. If this post is wrong, outdated, or you would take a different path

I write from work I have done on real sites. Search products change, and a step that was right when I published can go stale. I can also be wrong about the method.

If you disagree with the approach, the facts, or the outcome, I want the detail. Tell me what is off, what you would do instead, and where you saw it. I use that to correct the post so the next reader is not stuck.

Questions I hear a lot

How do you differ from a traditional agency?

You work with me, not a rotating cast. I audit, build, and train your team. Agencies often keep control and charge forever to run what you could own in-house.

What size of marketing budget makes sense for your services?

Honestly, you need enough marketing activity to make fixes worthwhile. Still very early stage? A course or specialist vendor may fit better. Already running a full in-house team? You probably want a full-time CMO, not me part-time.

Do you work with specific industries?

Yes: logistics, real estate, pro services, SaaS, local trades. Places where online leads hit the P&L fast. I skip healthcare and finance; compliance slows the work down.

What does a typical engagement look like?

Engagements start with a two-week audit of analytics, ads, SEO, and CRM. Then a 90-day plan focused on attribution, conversion, and what's leaking spend. Hands-on build and training along the way; at the end your team runs it.

How do I know if I need a digital marketing consultant versus hiring full-time?

If revenue is growing faster than you can hire marketing, fractional support fills the gap. Interim CMO work until you're ready for a full-time exec. Hiring help is available when you get there.

What happens after the engagement ends?

You keep logins, docs, and dashboards. Engagements are built so your team can maintain and troubleshoot. Some clients book a quarterly check-in; that's optional.
