The PDF went out as a document ad. People downloaded it. Campaign Manager still shows zero conversions.
That column does not count an in-feed file save. Conversion Tracking is for website or API events you attach to the ad set. In-feed downloads have a different metric.
Read Download Clicks or Leads first. Only rebuild Insight Tag tracking if the file actually lives on your site and the tag can fire on an HTML page, not on a raw PDF URL.
Downloads on LinkedIn are not website conversions
LinkedIn's document ads help is explicit. Members can read and download the document without leaving LinkedIn. Every file downloads as a PDF, even if you uploaded another format.
The Insight Tag never sees that save. It is JavaScript on your website. An in-feed download never loads your domain, so Conversion Tracking stays at zero even when the file is moving.
Website visits and website conversions document ads add a destination URL and a call to action. Lead generation document ads attach a form with Unlock full document. Brand awareness and engagement document ads may never have a conversion attached at all.
Read Download Clicks and Leads first
LinkedIn's performance metrics help lists Download Clicks as clicks on the download button in a document ad. That is the in-feed save. Viral Download Clicks is the same action after a share.
If Download Clicks is above zero and Conversions is zero, tracking is not broken. The report is mixing two jobs.
Open Columns, pick Conversions and Leads, and add Download Clicks if it is missing. Do not hunt a website conversion that was never in the path.
Lead generation document ads collect a Lead Gen Form before the full file. Conversion metrics need conversions added to the ad set. Lead metrics only exist on lead generation ad sets.
Look at Leads, Lead Form Opens, and completion rate, not the empty Conversions column.
That split matches why LinkedIn lead gen forms convert higher than landing pages. A form submit is not a website download.
LinkedIn also will not email the PDF for you after the form. The unlock is in-feed, unless the thank-you message sends people to your site.
When a website PDF should count
Zero conversions is a real bug only when the click is supposed to hit your domain. That is a website visits or website conversions document ad with a destination URL, or a thank-you page after a Lead Gen Form.
LinkedIn's Insight Tag conversion help is for actions on your website. The Download category is for accessing a file or installing something on that site. Name the conversion like downloading a white paper, then pick the method that can actually fire.
- In-feed document save with no destination URL, counted as Download Clicks, not Conversions.
- Lead gen unlock counted as Leads, with Conversions empty until a site event exists.
- Insight Tag pointed at a raw PDF that never loads the JavaScript.
- Page-load URL parameters that do not match the thank-you page the member actually hits.
- A conversion created in Measurement, then never associated or never approved on the ad set.
Do not set page-load tracking to the file URL itself. The tag belongs on an HTML thank-you that loads after the download, or on a Website Action for the download button.
Website Actions can group document download buttons with similar clicks. Auto-created conversions stay inactive until someone reviews and approves them.
If the source is Unverified, the tag has not seen traffic yet, or the snippet does not match Campaign Manager. Visit a real HTML page with the tag. Status can take minutes to a day after that load.
Straight quotes in the snippet matter. Curly quotes from a docs paste will keep the tag dead. Copy the code from Signals manager, Insight Tag, not from a slide.
Attach the conversion to the ad set
Creating a Download conversion does not attach it to every document ad. LinkedIn auto-selects ad sets from the conversion category.
Review that list. Add the document ad set if it is missing. Remove unrelated ad sets so a site demo does not steal credit from the PDF path.
Image pixels are less accurate than the Insight Tag. Use them only if the tag cannot run. Event-specific code belongs on the click that starts the file, not on a footer that fires on every page view.
Lookback windows are 30, 60, 90, or 180 days on Website Actions conversions. A test click from yesterday should still sit inside those windows. If it does not appear after a verified tag and a matching URL, the ad set still is not linked.
What a zero conversions column will not tell you
Zero conversions does not mean nobody took the PDF. Check Download Clicks and Leads before you pause the ad set. Zero also does not mean the Insight Tag is healthy if the file never left LinkedIn.
Fixing the column will not raise lead quality. An in-feed save has no work-email filter. A Lead Gen Form can, and a website thank-you can.
Pick the capture that matches the file, then measure that capture.

If this post is wrong, outdated, or you would take a different path
I write from work I have done on real sites. Search products change, and a step that was right when I published can go stale. I can also be wrong about the method.
If you disagree with the approach, the facts, or the outcome, I want the detail. Tell me what is off, what you would do instead, and where you saw it. I use that to correct the post so the next reader is not stuck.
